SPE: Sustainable Design for Healthcare

Service Description

COMING SOON: Students will consider their role as future healthcare providers in supporting the public through climate change and natural disasters. Students will also assess the footprint of the healthcare industry including carbon emissions and waste generation. Students will participate in a virtual simulation of the hospital setting to take note of the waste generated and will then be challenged to find effective solutions to reduce medical and/or non-medical waste. Students will hear from experts actvely engaged in greening the Canadian healthcare system. For 50-60 students. Schedule: 10:00 am Arrival 10:15 am to 11:00 am Healthcare space tour 11:00 am to 12:00 pm Introduction to the waste management and carbon emissions challenges in healthcare and the Canadian coalitions working toward greening healthcare 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm Lunch 12:45 pm to 2:00 pm The Greening Healthcare Hackathon-Generating new ideas and solutions to reduce food waste, healthy eating and menu design for hospitals, reducing medical and other non-medical waste in healthcare 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm Student Presentations and Conclusion 3:00 pm to 3:15 pm Return to School
